🌸 けれども (keredomo) and が (ga)  – used as a conjunction – formal

がっこうに行きましたけれども、先生はいませんでした
gakkou ni ikimashita keredomo, sensei wa imasen deshita.
I went to school, but the teacher wasn’t there.

その本を読みましたがすきではありませんでした
sono hon o yomimashita ga suki dewa arimasen deshita
I read that book, but I didn’t like it.

あめがふっているけれども、みせにいきます。
ame ga futteiru keredomo, mise ni ikimasu.
It’s raining, but I will go to the store.

そとはあついけれど、いえのなかはすずしい。
soto wa atsui keredo, ie no naka wa suzushii.
Outside is hot, but inside the house is cool.

にほんごをべんきょうしましたが、わかりません。
nihongo o benkyou shimashita ga, wakarimasen.
I studied Japanese, but I don’t understand it.

🌸 けど (kedo) – casual

その本を読みましたけどすきではありませんでした
sono hon o yomimashita kedo suki dewa arimasen deshita
I read that book, but I didn’t like it.

すこしはやいけど、おたんじょうびおめでとう！
Sukoshi hayai kedo, o-tanjoubi omedetou!
It is a little early but Happy Birthday!

❗ けど (kedo) can also be used as a statement softener.

けいこですけど。
Keiko desu kedo.
This is Keiko.

すしがすき?
sushi ga suki
Do you like sushi?

はい、好すきですけど。
hai, suki desu kedo.
Yes, I like it.

🌸 でも (demo) – used at the start of sentence / casual

きょうわはいそがしいです。でもあしたはひまです。
kyou wa isogashii desu. Demo ashita wa hima desu.
I’m busy today. But tomorrow I’m free.

母は私に厳しい。でも弟には優しい。
Haaha wa watashi ni kibishii. Demo otouto niwa yasashii .
My mom is strict with me. But she is sweet to my little brother.

❗ Same usage with でも (demo), but しかし (shikashi) & だが (daga) is used more in writing.

インターネットは情報を集めるのにとても便利だ。しかしネット上の全ての情報が正しいとは限らない。
Intaanetto wa jouhou wo atsumeru noni totemo benrida. Shikashi netto jou no subete no jouhou ga tadashii to wa kagiranai.
Internet is very convenient for gathering information. However, the information on the internet is not always correct.
